Habitat 67, Moshe Safdie. Montreal's Expo '67 With its stacked 354 modular prefabricated concrete boxes forming 158 dwellings and numerous roof terraces, Habitat is a dramatic and well-articulated building peaking at ten stories. Its "houses" are accessible by sheltered, but open, pedestrian streets linked to vertical circulation cores with elevators stopping only at every fourth floor.

This circulation system sometimes requires that dwellings be one story above or below the pedestrian street. Sited on Cite du Havre, the occupants of every dwellings unit enjoy views in several directions - the skyline of downtown Montreal with the mountain backdrop, Nun's Island, the busy harbour, or the swift flowing St. Lawrence River with the south shore beyond.
